Classes for Students Ages 5 & Under

 


Classes for ages 5 & Under are divided into 4 categories:

K5 - Students who are 5 years of age by September 1st of the dance year.

K4 - Students who are 4 years of age by September 1st of the dance year.

K3 - Students who are 3 years of age by September 1st of the dance year.

18-36 Months - Students who are near 18 months of age or older by the beginning of the dance year. Parent participation required.


K3 - K5 Students also have the option of adding hip hop class!(see below)

18-36 Months “Dance Time”

Let Miss Shalyn serve as your guide as you and your little one work on basic motor and social skills. We will work on your child’s balance, body awareness, and coordination while developing rhythm and flexibility.

Dance Time will also help your child with:

  1. -Early Socialization

  2. -Developing Independence

  3. -Sharing and Taking Turns

  4. -Following Directions and Cooperation

Classes are once a week and last approximately 30 minutes. Dance Time students do not have a dress code or perform in the recital. Parent participation is required.

K3 Creative Movement

Our 3 year-olds are ready to do “what the big kids do” but with a dollop of fun! Over the course of the year, students visit several themes with MIss Shalyn including: Bugs & Nature, Under the Sea, On the Farm - just to name a few. Their environment becomes more structured while they gain flexibility, learn basic dance terminology, and an awareness of spacial and perceptual concepts.

K3 Classes will also help your child with:

  1. -Feeling comfortable away from parents.

  2. -Sharing and Taking Turns

  3. -Following Directions and Cooperation

  4. -Feeling ready and excited to learn.

  5. -Preparation for school.

Classes are once a week and last approximately 30 minutes. K3 students perform two dances in the year-end recital.

K4 Dance FUNdamentals

Our 4 year olds are growing up so fast and are just about ready to enter school! That’s why it’s important to VSDance that we help our students prepare by focusing on many of the National Kindergarten Readiness Skills such as: taking turns, sharing, communicating needs, showing enthusiasm when learning new skills, waiting patiently, and letter/number/shape recognition.

K4 Classes will also help your child with:

  1. -Memory and Timing

  2. -Imaginary Play

  3. -Balance and Coordination

  4. -Fundamentals of Ballet and Tap

Classes are once a week and last approximately 45 minutes. K4 students perform two dances (a Ballet and a Tap) in the year-end recital.

K5 Ballet & Tap

Our K5 Class is the last combination class in our young dancers program. After this year, they are permitted to participate in a variety of subjects and those who have completed our young dancers program will be quite successful at it! By the end of the year, dancers should know and execute all 5 Ballet Positions, 1st and 3rd Arabesque, sautés, eschappés, jetés, pliés, shuffles, and ball-changes to name a few.

K5 Classes will also help your child with:

- Basic Ballet & Tap Terminology

  1. -Memory and Timing

  2. -Balance and Coordination

Classes are once a week and last approximately 45 minutes. K5 students perform two dances (a Ballet and a Tap) in the year-end recital.

K3-K5 Acrobatics (Included in your Basic Class for K3, K4, & K5!)

Our K3-K5 Acrobatics class is designed to help students achieve acrobatic potential through discipline, strength, and flexibility in a playful atmosphere. Students go to “stations” to work on tumbling, upper-body strength, balance, and hand-walking.

Acrobatics will also help your child with:

  1. -Motor Skills

  2. -Achieving Small Goals

  3. -Upper Body Strength and Flexibility

  4. -Coordination and Listening

Classes are once a week and last approximately 30 minutes. Students must wear a unitard and do not perform in the recital.

K3-K5 Hippity Hop (Add-On Course)

Our K3-K5 Hip Hop class was made by many requests for a fun release! Students learn the basics of general hip hop movement and build self-confidence in displaying a “personality” in dance.

Classes are once a week and last approximately 30 minutes. Students will perform a hip hop routine in the recital.
