Commonly Asked Questions
How do I determine what classes my child is in?
We separate students by their grade in school, or what year they will begin school. So, if your child is beginning Kindergarten this year, they would go into a K5 course. If they will not be in Kindergarten until Fall of 2011, they would go into a K4 course, and so on. If a child has skipped a grade or been held back, we handle it on an individual basis.
What are your class requirements this year?
All students at VSDance are enrolled in a Core Class: for ages K3-5 this is thier normal class, and for ages 1st grade and above this class is Ballet. After that, students can take whatever they choose. Hip Hop is open to all K3-5, but in 1st Grade and above it's an addition to their Jazz class. We realize that not all studios require their students to take a class that empasizes the fundamentals of dance--but we are not like any other studio!
What is your new classification of coursework?
This year students in 3rd grade and above are separated by their dance work ethic:
4Kicks: Are students who may be in dance for the first time, or have enjoyed taking dance in the years past “for fun”. These students typically come only once a week, taking less than 3 courses and are involved in no extracurricular activities at VSDance (such as Company or The Secret River).
4All: Classes that any student can register for. These classes can range from a beginner to an advanced dancer.
4Life: Are students who see Dance lessons as their main extracurricular activity after school. At the elementary school level, 4Life Dancers are only separated in Ballet, and are the students we are grooming to possibly begin Pre-Pointe in Middle School . But at the Middle and High School Level, 4Life Dancers are involved in Dance: taking an array of classes, trying their hardest and have a strong commitment to their dance education (though they may not be on Pointe). 4Life Classes are for serious dancers who come to class on time, prepared, and ready to learn.
What is Company?
Company is a group of dancers who dance for special appearances, shows, and parades throughout the year. They attend a special course once a week to learn choreography or get special attention on something they have been trying to accomplish in class. They have the option of attending workshop and competition (though extra practice is required). Company Dancers are in at least Ballet, Tap, & Jazz classes weekly.
Last year my student’s class was on a Monday or Friday and didn’t get as many days as the others—what can I do?
This year, that problem has been solved. There are NO classes on Fridays or Saturdays this year and no Mondays are being taken off. In fact, we will BEGIN classes on Labor Day. 32 weeks of full dance will be offered next year with no confusion. Days are only taken off if the full week is taken off: the week after Thanksgiving, 2 weeks during the winter, and Spring Break.
How much is dance this year?
This year, you will be given your tuition cost for the whole year to pay upfront at last year’s prices. If you opt to divide your payments, we will be glad to divide them into monthly payments for you at a 10% increase.
Our K3-5 and our 1st & 2nd Grade Mini Line-Up have special bundle pricing for their exciting new curriculum!
When can I sign-up?
Online registration begins June 21st. Students enrolled in the 2009-2010 Dance Year or 2010 Summer Classes have priority until July 15th. After that, enrollment is open to all. New students are encouraged to turn in your preregistration paperwork as soon as possible. Even though you register online, you will still have to come to the studio in August to complete your Registration paperwork.
